Brisbane Archbishop Leads a Roman Invasion
Harvest Pilgrimages, official tour operator for the canonisation celebrations of Mary MacKillop, has reported an “overwhelming” response to a 12 day Canonisation Pilgrimage to be accompanied by Brisbane’s Archbishop John Bathersby to Italy and Rome departing October 9. Close to 190 local Brisbane pilgrims have joined the tour – more than double what was originally expected.
“Bookings have been incredible, snowballing to a convoy of four coach loads now making the journey from Venice to Padua and Assisi and onward to Rome for the five days of official events,” Harvest Pilgrimages managing director Philip Nyall said. “Mary, named as the patroness of the Brisbane Archdiocese, has definitely captured the hearts of the Brisbane faithful.”
The 12 day fully escorted ‘Canonisation Pilgrimage’ tour is priced from $5380pp twin share and includes 3 days in Venice, a mass at the tomb of St Anthony in Padua, 2 nights and a full day of sightseeing in the medieval village of Assisi and five nights in Rome incorporating the city’s main pilgrimage sites. Participants will join a ‘Footsteps of Mary MacKillop’ tour and obtain entry to all the official canonisation events which commence October 17. Airfares, 4 star hotels, dinners, breakfasts and expert guides are all included.
