Virtual Event to Focus on Sustainable Issues for Cruise Industry

The organizers of the annual Cruise Shipping Miami exhibition and conference held in Miami Beach, in collaboration with Sustainable Travel International are launching Cruise Shipping Virtual a 100% online exhibition and conference on September 28, 2010.

This new event is an innovative and interactive way for suppliers and buyers to meet in a virtual environment offering them an additional opportunity to reconnect throughout the year. The one- day live event whose focus on sustainability includes an Exhibit Hall filled with suppliers, Conference Center to view informative webinars and a Lounge to network via chats.

The web-based event will include two webinars focusing on sustainable tourism issues including “Greening of the Supply Chain” moderated by Michael Jones, VP of Supply Chain, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd and “Sustainable Tourism 101- Entering the World of Green Travel” moderated by Brian Mullis, President, Sustainable Travel International.

In addition, Cruise Shipping Miami and Sustainable Travel International are offering a three-tiered, Green Travel Certificate Program for this webinar series and future sessions. The series is designed to help travel professionals and exhibitors reap the benefits associated with sustainable tourism.

“This program allows us to take a leadership position to positively influence cruise lines and their suppliers, helping them to identify and implement best practices in sustainable tourism,” explains Marilyn McHugh, Brand Director, Cruise Shipping Miami. “The webinar series and certificate program we’ve developed with Sustainable Travel International actively involves industry leaders who will be sharing first-hand experiences, financial considerations, and the benefits and challenges of implementing green business practices.”

“More cruise lines are taking sustainability seriously and going above and beyond compliance requirements to reduce their environmental footprints and positively impact the communities they visit,” explains Brian T. Mullis, CEO, Sustainable Travel International. “The new Green Travel Certificate Program is designed to support this trend and get more cruise lines and cruise line suppliers involved.”

Following the live event, Cruise Shipping Virtual will be available via on-demand access until December 28, 2010.
