The red carpet was rolled out today at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong to welcome the Asian mega stars of the epic suspense movie “Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame”- Andy Lau and Li Bingbing. The movie directed by Tsui Hark will compete for the Golden Lion in the 67th Venice Film Festival from September 1-11, 2010 and hit Hong Kong cinemas on September 30, 2010.

The “world famous home of the famous” already houses Andy Lau’s wax figure in its Hong Kong attraction. To spice up the commemorative “premiere” in Hong Kong, Andy Lau’s wax figure was given a new look and Li Bingbing’s wax figure was borrowed from the Shanghai attraction. It is the first time Li Bingbing’s wax figure is being exhibited in Hong Kong.

The real Andy and Bingbing and their wax figures dressed alike – Andy in a black business suit and Bingbing in a gracious gown . Prior to the two stars officiating the premiere, two children performers mimicked the movie characters by dressing in their costumes and performing the martial arts stunts.

“We are dedicated to bringing fun-filled entertainment to our guests. This special premiere is but one of the many examples with which we continue to create one-of-a-kind excitement that can only be found at the celebrity-studded attraction,” said Bret Pidgeon, General Manager of Madame Tussauds Hong Kong and Shanghai.

At the “premiere” Andy and Bingbing jointly presented a souvenir gala premiere ticket to Kelly Mak, Head of Marketing and Customer Services for Madame Tussauds Hong Kong.  Albert Lee, Chief Executive Officer of Emperor Motion Pictures also presented an auspicious yacht model to Andy and Bingbing to wish them good luck in their upcoming Venice Film Festival competition.

From now until September 15, 2010, guests posing alongside the two movie stars’ wax figures, film costume and props in the Hong Kong Glamour zone of Madame Tussauds Hong Kong can enter the Facebook competition hosted by Madame Tussauds Hong Kong (www.facebook.com/MadameTussaudsHongKong) where five most interesting snapshots will be awarded premiere tickets for “Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame”. Each winner will be bestowed two exclusive tickets for the premieres to be held in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai or Guangzhou.

Andy Lau’s wax figure has a silicon heart that beats. It is one of the most popular as it is often hugged and kissed by avid fans. Li Bingbing was thrilled to see her wax figure in Madame Tussauds Hong Kong for the very first time. She said that this is a very enchanting way to get closer to visitors from Hong Kong and worldwide.
