Background
Superior A.R.T. has been established as a joint venture between Sydney IVF and a group of Thai experts in Infertility and IVF treatment, to create a centre of excellence in Assisted Reproductive Technology laboratories in Asia. The co-ordination of Sydney IVF, Australia’s premier IVF treatment provider, and the expertise of Thai Infertility specialists have forged a strong and unique commitment to research, advanced genetic testing and diagnosis.
Since the first IVF baby, Louise Brown was born over 30 years ago, assisted reproductive technology has been greatly enhanced, leading to better outcomes for couples desiring children. Present technology includes diagnosing any genetic disorders in the embryos before transferring them back to the uterus. This technique, called PGD (Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis), allow couples at risk of producing a child with a genetic disorder to select the best quality embryo without the genetic disorder for transfer.
We can now not only help infertile couples but also help any couple who carry a mutation for single gene disorders, such as cystic fibrosis, beta thalassemia, alpha thalassemia, sickle cell anemia and etc. to have a healthy baby. Couples, who have an existing child with a variety of disorders such as thalassemia, leukaemia, etc, can select an embryo which is a HLA matched to the child with the disorder and, following the birth of the baby, cord blood can be donated for stem-cell extraction to aid in the treatment of the baby’s elder sibling.
